Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is currently one of the most thoroughly researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine available anywhere.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your overall health is determined by the quality of the Qi (energy) flow through the natural pathways of your body (meridians). Acupuncture uses a variety of techniques, including placing very thin sterile needles into specific points on the body, to stimulate and improve your Qi flow. The many benefits of acupuncture include:
- Pain reduction
- Stress and tension relief
- Increased energy levels
- Stronger digestion
- Relief from bad habits and addictions
- Greater sense of overall health and well-being
What to expect at your appointment
The initial consultation, which lasts about two hours, is a time for us to really take a look at what goals you have for your health. Your medical and family history, current life situation, information from a physical exam and pulse diagnosis will be gathered. I will then go on to explore the underlying energetic causes of your concern or symptom by considering you in your entirey: the physical body, emotional stability, life habits, and your spirit or vitality for life. This holistic evaluation is important because even though two people may suffer the same complaint, the energetic imbalance is usually different for each individual. When I am able to identify and remedy the underlying cause, the symptoms often disappear because they are no longer perpetuated by the imbalance. Once qi circulates appropriately in strength and quality, you will experience more equilibrium and resilience.
After your initial consultation, treatments last one hour and are generally scheduled once a week for about six weeks. During this time, significant signs of progress will likely appear. As you experience improvement and enjoy a greater sense of ease in life, treatments may be extended to every other week, every three weeks, then monthly and eventually seasonally.
